Love4ARTS recipient Lauren Bumgarner
Lauren Bumgarner was awarded a $500 Love4ARTS scholarship in December 2017. Lauren is a recent graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a BA in Film & Media. Her
recent project was an experimental feature length film/live performance entitled I Think I Know Where I Stand. Lauren presented the dance film/live performance during its second showing on January
11, 2018 at MAINSITE Contemporary Art in Norman, Oklahoma. The short form version of I Think I Know Where I Stand was selected to appear at the 2018 LA Dance Film Festival on January 25th.
Lauren’s goal is to fully address her personal concerns, which inform her art making, in a way that sheds light on female and underrepresented voices everywhere. While
promoting her most recent project, I Think I Know Where I Stand, she encountered financial needs for scheduling performances and film festival entry fees.
The Brave Butterfly’s Love4ARTS Scholarship is awarded to Lauren in memory of Kay Franklin and also in advocacy of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis awareness. Lauren grew up in
Tuttle, Oklahoma where Kay also resided and worked at her father’s (Jim Arganbright) local pharmacy. Lauren holds special memories of Kay from her childhood visits, with her sister Emily, to The Star
Pharmacy where she often visited to purchase a Cherry Ice and candy. Lauren felt Kay’s support of her love for dance through Kay attending her dance recitals and complimenting her performances.
